JFrog Mission Control 3.x
JFrog Distribution 1.x
JFrog Enterprise+ (Pre-Platform Release)

Overview

Get up and running quickly and easily with your new JFrog Platform installation using the onboarding wizard. The wizard is launched when you install the JFrog Platform, making sure you can complete the set up with the minimal information needed to get started.

Starting the JFrog Platform for the first time launches the JFrog Platform onboarding wizard.

The actual steps in the wizard depend on which services are included in the installation. For example, the onboarding wizard for an installation that includes Xray will prompt you to select the repositories for Xray to index.

When a service is added at a later date, after the JFrog Platform is already running, the onboarding wizard will assist you with adding the additional service.

Step 1: Welcome to the Onboarding Wizard

After this first login, you will be guided through a short onboarding wizard to make sure you have the minimal parameters needed. Click Get Started to begin.

Step 2: Reset Admin Password

When the JFrog Platform is installed, it creates a default user with admin privileges predefined in the system. In this step, you must reset the admin password by entering a new password. Click Next to continue.

Step 3: Activate License

Select your license type and enter your license key. Click Next to continue.

Note: For an Xray Trial License, make sure to select the Xray Trial License option before entering the license key.

When Mission Control is installed the wizard will display the option to add license buckets.

Select your license option. If you choose to add buckets, please provide the bucket name, Key and file, or URL. For additional buckets, click on Add Bucket as required. Click Next to continue.

Note: For a Mission Control License, make sure to select the License Bucket(s) option before entering the license key.

Step 4: Set Base URL

Set the base URL for accessing JFrog. For more information, see General System Settings.

Click Next to continue.

Step 5: Configure Platform Default Proxy

If you want remote access to your resources (repositories, builds, and Release Bundles), configure your default proxy server. Configuring a default proxy is optional, so you can skip this step. However, if you do decide to configure the default proxy now, all the three fields, Proxy Key, Host, and Port, are mandatory.

Step 6: Create Repositories

Select the package type(s) you want. JFrog will create the default repositories for you!

Click Next to continue.

Step 9: Index Resources

* Available when Xray is installed.

Select the repositories for Xray to index. Artifacts in these repositories will automatically be analyzed from now on.

Configuring builds and release bundles for indexing can be done later on after the Onboarding Wizard from the Administration module.

Click Next to continue.

Step 8: Download Vulnerabilities Database

* Available when Xray is installed.

Select a Sync mode and click Next to continue.

For the database synchronization to begin immediately, check Start Automatically. The synchronization begins when you click Next.
If you want the database synchronization to begin later, leave Start Automatically unchecked. To synchronize later, in the Administration module, select Xray | Database Sync. For more information, see here.

Brief explanation of Sync mode

For Xray to scan your indexed artifacts it must ingest data on issues and vulnerabilities from the global database server maintained by JFrog.

There are two ways to synchronize Xray with the global database server:

  • Online: In which, Xray synchronizes with the global database server automatically on a daily basis through an internet connection
  • Offline: In which, you manually download files from the global database server and then upload them to Xray

For more information, see Synchronizing the Database.

Step 9: Summary

Review the default repositories. Click Finish to complete the wizard and get started with JFrog.
