Today when we want to include docker images as part of Release bundle promotion we have to provide the entire path of the image including the tag in the AQL. You can use wildcards in the "path" for docker images when looking to get all the tags of an image. There is no other easy way to get the image and all the layers of the image without providing the image path including the tag in the AQL query.
When requesting docker images via AQL based on the image name and the sha256 value of the manifest you only receive the manifest file in the results and not the layer details. Without the layers of a docker image there is no use of promoting just the manifest file in the Release bundle.
Docker clients allow pulling images based on the digest of the manifest. The users using AQL for creating the Release bundle also expect that retrieving images and layers should work when the search for the image is based on the manifest digest.
