      Description

We tried to install the NPM Artifacts in the project, it fails with 400 error. And also we faced an issue like "Parent <artifactname> must be a folder", it should be a folder, but it downloads a corrupted file and hence faced the issue.
Resolution: Added ‘/api/npm’ into the registry url in the npm configuration of the developers resolved the issue we faced with corrupt content on the JFrog Artifactory.

However we expect that if a developer makes a wrong configuration to the proxy url on his personal development environment it cannot corrupt the repository on the JFrog Artifactory.

Instead we would expect an error returned by JFrog Artifactory that the url is malformed, this would also have prevented us from reaching out for assistance to you as we would have detected the mistake in the url.

We do not want to start using the npm capabilities of JFrog until we find a way to prevent this corruption, that can be introduced by any developer, from happening.

The possibility of any user of the JFrog Artifactory to introduce corruption on a remote repository is perceived by us as a bug.

We would like to have the following improvement:
If the registry URL is not configured properly (URL without api/npm), then it should not download any corrupted files and instead it should show some error messages.
