S3 providers – AWS signature version

In S3, requests are allowed or denied based on the identity of the requester.

This process also uses a signature algorithm for the authentication process.

Most S3 providers now use AWS signature version 4.

This is the default signature version when setting S3 object store in Artifactory (following version 4.3).

When using internal S3 providers which use the AWS signature version 2, you will need to modify the the AWS signature version for the S3 setup. Otherwise requests will fail to authenticate. This can be done by adding the following entry of the S3 configuration on the storage.properties file:

binary.provider.s3.aws.version=AWS2

Version 4.6.0 of Artifactory introduces new filestore management capabilities. To modify the Signature version on the setup of the binarystore.xml file, you will need to use the following:

<s3AwsVersion>AWS2</s3AwsVersion>
